Rogue has been blessed with the unique ability to instantly absorb another person's physical skills, memories, personality and superhuman abilities or power matrix. Skin to skin contact with another will result in a biophysical shock for the other individual as her body synthesizes all aspects of that lucky person to varying degrees. The transfers effect is directly linked to how long her skin is in contact with theirs, for example one minute of contact with Wolverine would result in an hour of really bad hair and equally dangerous claws that had grown from her hands.
Prolonged contact can result in full absorption and such was the case with Carol Danvers, or better known in the right circles at the Lazy Days Extended Care Facility as Jane Doe. Contact with Danvers has given Rogue the ability to fly at subsonic speeds, granted her meta human strength and endurance, and has made her bulletproof. In addition she has a seventh sense which enables her to react instinctively to danger and home in on a specific objects. The Southern spitfire is basically more durable than a week old Krispy Kreme donut but not nearly as sweet.
History:
Rogue grew up in Coldecott County Mississippi as the child of Owen and Priscilla. She was given a rough education by her aunt Carrie until deciding to run away. As young child living on her own using a nickname she had picked up along the way, Rogue, was eventually approached by Raven Darkholme and the two formed a timid bond that grew stronger over the coming years. Her powers first surfaced on the banks of the Mississippi as she experienced her first kiss with a lovely boy named Cody. The boy was placed into a coma and the image of him being drained dry still haunts her.
As she grew up, Rogue continually tested her limits. Always popular with the boys, Rogue tested her control with a second boy, Freddie and like Cody her powers had their effect. However Freddie woke up fine, though Rogue would never speak to the boy again. While Rogue dreamed of having a normal life with a boyfriend and eventually a family of her own, she now knew that a life like that just wasn't in the cards for someone like her.
As she came of age, Mystique inducted Rogue into the Brotherhood and for a time everything went along swimmingly for the mother and daughter team. During a battle with the Super Hero Ms. Marvel, Rogue permanently absorbed Carol Danvers powers of flight, superhuman strength, endurance and near-invulnerability. Danvers, like Cody before her went into a seemingly irreversible coma. Unable to get the help she needed to end the trio of personalities battling inside her head from the Brotherhood, Rogue sought help from one of their enemies, Professor Charles Xavier.
At first several members of the team turned against Rogue, but they gradually changed their tune once they saw how sincere the girl was. Although she has not learned to master her absorption ability, she has found a happier home than she has ever known before with her family of X-Men. Surrounded by her new family, Rogue developed a high-spirited personality.
She even had a brief flirtation with another of the X-Men's greatest foes, Magneto during a period when her powers were not active. However, like her time with the Brotherhood, Rogue knew that it wasn't meant to be. They were simply too different. She now accepted that she was truly a heroine and not a terrorist. And so she chose to be alone rather than go against every grain in her body.
Her adventures with the X-Men have taken her all over the globe and into the far reaches of space. During her time with the Brotherhood, Rogue was sent to attack Warren Worthington in an attempt to steal the secret identities of the X-Men from his mind. Just before kissing the handsome man, Rogue freaked out as she feared that absorbing the powers of someone with a physical mutation could cause her to permanently become a freak.
The Angel's date, the beautiful songstress known as the Dazzler attacked her and Rogue developed a permanent grudge against the young woman who would later become a teammate. You see, Alison had two things rogue felt she would never have, a controllable power and a handsome boyfriend. Shortly after joining the X-Men, Rogue would gain Wolverine's trust and friendship after risking her life to save his fiance, Mariko Yashida in spite of his friendship with Carol Danvers. He then saved her life with a kiss, enabling his healing abilities to heal her.
After the Dazzler joined the X-Men the two ended up saving each others lives during battles with the Marauders and put the past behind them, though Rogue still harbors a slight amount of jealousy or Alison Blaire. Later still, the twin personalities dueling for dominance inside Rogue's mind reached a truce of sorts, Carol would be allowed to surface when rogue was unconscious. During one of the moments, Danvers touched Psylocke without any detrimental side effects. Rogue however does not have that control, though the chance that she might learn to do so does exist as this shows that her lack of control is largely psychological.
This truce has come to an end after Danvers once again exerted control over Rogue's mind, during another battle with Nimrod, Rogue asked the Dazzler to shoot them both and she pushed the sentinel through the siege perilous. She emmerges on the other side with a body free of any memories but her own and without Danver's powers. She was attacked by Danvers and the two battled through a portal and into the Savage Land. While one grew stronger, the other weakend and rogue refused to kill Danvers a second time. The battle was ended by Magneto who then used a machine to transfer Carol's powers to her body without her memories.
Rendered powerless for a time, Rogue enjoyed a romance with Magneto until her powers resurfaced during a battle with Zaldane. Turned off by Magneto's blood thirst, Rogue left him. Rogue moved on and lived in South Carolina for a time waitressing and studying law. Recent events and the growing intolerance for mutantkind has brought Rogue back to life with the X-men.
